CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Deadline: March 15, 2024
We are seeking nominations for positions to serve on the New Mexico Route 66 Association Board of Directors. For 35 years, we have been dedicated to education, promotion, and preservation of New Mexico’s Historic Route 66 Scenic Byway. But we cannot do that alone—we need you. You can be a part of something greater and be a more integral partner of this organization and the legacy of America’s Mother Road as we approach the highways 100th birthday in 2026. The Board of Directors bring their specific talents and time to our organization, and we are so thankful for their tireless enthusiasm and support.
If you are interested in becoming a board member (self-nominations are welcome) or know of other association members you would like to nominate, please complete a nomination form. Submissions must be received no later than March 15, 2024.
This is a two-year commitment with terms running from May 1, 2024 through December 31, 2025.

- Membership votes: April 1-25
- Count votes, confirm participation, and notify winners: April 26-30
- New board members start: May 1
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ideal board members would possess core characteristics such as a passion for the cause, eagerness to participate, and the commitment to see responsibilities through.

Officer Responsibilities
The Officers of the Board of Directors include: president, vice-president, treasurer, and secretary and are appointed by the board of directors for a one-year term.

Board Member Eligibility
- Be a member of the Association in good standing.
- Possess at least two of the three “Ts”:
- Dedicated time to the Association Mission (Time).
- Unique skills and gifts to assist the Association Mission (Talent).
- Provide and/or seek out donations, grants, and other funding to finance Association projects and programs adequately (Treasure).
- Other organizational or program history that the board deem appropriate.
- Attend all board meetings, committee meetings and functions throughout the state and be prepared to participate.
- Serve on a minimum of one (1) committee and offer to take on special assignments as needed.
- Participate actively in the board’s annual evaluation and planning efforts.
- Stay informed about board and committee matters; review and comment on minutes and reports.
- Keep up-to-date on developments in the Association’s field.
- Follow developments in state and local areas that may affect the Association and inform board of such information.
- Determine and monitor the Association’s products and programs.
- Participate actively in the sale and distribution of Association’s products and programs.
- Participate in fundraising for the Association’s operations to finance products and programs adequately.
- Participate actively in the sale of new ads for the New Mexico Route 66 Magazine and follow up on all previous ads.
- Distribute New Mexico Route 66 Magazine in his/her area.
- Manage resources efficiently and effectively.
- Enhance the Association’s public image.
- Inform others about the Association.
- Participate actively in recruiting new memberships and follow up on renewal memberships as needed.
- Canvas elected officials and local leaders in his/her community for preservation needs and projects and who can help implement them.
- Assist the board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities such as reviewing the Association’s annual financial statements.
- Suggest nominees to the board who can make significant contributions to the work of the board and the Association.
- Follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies.
- Maintain your Association membership.

- In addition to the list above, attend any additional executive board/officer meetings.
- Perform duties specific to the officer role (job descriptions available upon request)
