NM Route 66 AssociationTourism and Recreation

Overview

For tourists there is ample opportunity to explore our local communities (look under Community Contacts) and their offerings. By returning to the Contact Directory you can link directly to a local Chamber of Commerce, Visitors Bureau or Information Center. They can connect you to lodging, restaurants, events and activities in the region. In some cases there are interpretative museums and heritage tours available.

Additionally, ( in the Directory under State) the state of New Mexicos Tourism Department coordinates and disseminates a vast array of local and state wide literature for local and, regional events and activities and recreational opportunities available at our state and national monuments and parks. You may also wish to link to the states Web Sites for New Mexico Arts, New Mexico State Historic Department of Preservation, New Mexico Highway & Transportation Department (for Scenic Byways and Trails), as well as other sites.

A study prepared for the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division by David Kammer, Ph.D. titled "The Historic and Architectural Resources of Route 66 Through New Mexico," will be added to this Web Site by next year. Dr. Kammer's study "...identifies an historic context or historic frame-work based on the rise of automobile tourism in New Mexico and then assesses the architectural resources or properties related to that context associated with Route 66."
