Annual Meeting & Elections In Clines Corners

The Association's Annual meeting was held in Historic Clines Corners (see related story in last newsletter) on July 17. The twenty members and guests had a great lunch, shopped for curios and listened to a tremendous presentation and video on Clines Corners by Susie McComb.

State Representative Rhonda King was the only legislator able to attend the meeting. She received a historic replica of a Route 66 road sign as a token of the Association's gratitude for carrying successful legislation during the last legislative session. State Representative Gail Beam, State Senator Gloria Howes and State Senator Phil Griego will receive their awards individually and a special certificate of thanks for their work on behalf of Historic Route 66.

The annual elections were held. The nominations committee (Tom Willis and Dorothy Black) nominated incumbents David Riley, Brandon Lipman and Rich Williams for three year terms. Additionally, Barbara Silverman of Santa Fe and Nick Manole of Albuquerque were nominated for three year terms. No additional nominations were made from the floor and the entire slate was elected by unanimous consent.

Barbara Silverman has been an organizational development consultant and nonprofit director for many years. Not only does she have a great love of our rural New Mexico community life, she works for the New Mexico MainStreet Program, providing resources in revitalization for community-based nonprofit organizations.

Nick Manole is a restaurateur on Historic Route 66 Albuquerque, owning Nick's Place on 4th Street and Fresh Choices on Central Avenue downtown. Nick has been a neighborhood activist, a board member on several downtown redevelopment organizations and member of several classic and vintage car clubs.

The nominating committee nominated the following Directors as officers for 1999-2000; Rich Williams - President; Tom Willis - Vice President; Darryl Willison - Secretary; and Susie McComb - Treasurer. There were no nominations from the floor and the slate was elected by unanimous consent. The group thanked Susie for all her contributions to move the agenda and policy of the Association forward during her tenure.

Those not able to attend but wanting a copy of the treasurer's report and minutes, may write to the Association for a copy.
