for a visit when passing through. Harvey Kaplan of Santa Fe works as
a consultant for the Route 66 Scenic Byways Project. We feel fortunate to
have him as a new member, and he was recently elected to the Board of Directors.
In his spare time, Harvey designs handmade sterling silver depicting Americas
roadside buildings and cars, as well as sterling silver Route 66 belt buckles.
Ed C. Jungbluth, of the Gallup Convention & Visitors Bureau, writes
that he is interested in Tourism, Tourism, Tourism! Dr. Janice Lee Sperling,
owner of The W. J. Marsh House Victorian Bed & Breakfast in the Huning Highland
area of Albuquerque, writes that she traveled Route 66 from New Mexico to
California each summer to visit her grandparents. Will Steinberg of

and Christi Willison of Albuquerque, owners of STG Design, Inc., design
decals, T-shirts and other art about Route 66. Darryl sees importance in
"emphasizing the history of Route 66 through artwork for a younger
generation, so they too can appreciate this great American icon." Well
said, Darryl. Al and Mary Jo Bonds of Tupelo, Missouri love all of Route
66. "We made the whole trip in 1993 and it was the best vacation weve
had." Frank J. Borowiak of Albuquerque enjoys the history of Route

prior to World War II. Fern Mohlers husband was head bookkeeper for Skousen
Construction Company for many years. Fern is 88 years young. Welcome
new members Dyann Espinosa of San Francisco, California, who hopes to travel
Route 66 with friends east and west out of Albuquerque, and Kathleen Hanlon,
chairperson of the East Mountain Historical Society in Tijeras, New Mexico.

Marcia Logsdon of Santa Fe carries memories from childhood in Albuquerque.
Her husband, an aerial photographer, had photos of Route 66 published in
New Mexico Magazine. Meredith Mayo of Santa Fe misses the Burma Shave
signs. Joseph McAleer is interested in retracing his route from Tucumcari
to Los Angeles, a trip he took in July, 1954. Bernadette T. McTigue of Albuquerque
would like to see Route 66 preserved as much as possible as a living history
of the days when travel along the road was more of an adventure. Amen, Bernadette.
Luis Torres, who was born and raised in Albuquerque, is 75 years young and
remembers Route 66 from New Mexico to California. Robert H. Werden of
Rio Rancho, New Mexico, says he is interested in "The Southwest, especially
New Mexico." Yes, Robert, its that special mystique. Della Wolf of
Albuquerque is interested in the history of the road, as well as the routes
and changes that were made. Finally, Kathleen Hanlon has served as mayordomo
of the Santo NiÒo Church on Route 66. She writes that the people
there lived, worked, sang, danced, hauled wood and worshiped God at the

Horst Bunn of Berlin, Germany enjoyed the Atomic Museum of Albuquerque
on a second tour of Route 66. Kent Hendrick of Albuquerque renewed, as did
Joye Lucas, Buster McDaniel of Troy, Missouri and Charles W. Rippel, Jr.
Of Euless, Texas. Ed Auten of Moriarty, New Mexico renewed and attended
our November meeting, and we dont think hes as old as he says he is. Ron
Edlund renewed and writes, "Im just so happy and proud to be a member
of your association as well as the other seven. LONG LIVE ROUTE 66! Also
renewing is Geraldine Johnson of Albuquerque, who hopes that Congress will
designate Route 66 as a National Heritage Highway, and Steve Rider of Albany,
New York, who is interested in photography that captures the scenic beauty
and traces of older times along the route. Mike and Rita McRoberts of Shelbyville,
Indiana renewed, as did Arthur C. Doumas of Lake Jackson, Texas and Shirley
Hasenyager of Kailua, Hawaii. Roger Jenson, who operates the Redwood
Lodge in Tucumcari, will put you up next to the Tucumcari Convention Center,
site of the Cultural Corridors Artwork by Tim Coffin. Peter and Sandra Prescott
of Gardiner, Maine hope to travel as much of the road as allowed, plus long-time
member Kay Rieke. Bill and Mary Watts of Belen, New Mexico have made a Route
66 video of "The Road that Built America" available for members
