Nate Skousen, Jr. not only wrote the cover story for our summer issue, but he sent in four memberships for his children. We welcome John & Jeanie Skousen and David & Alice Skousen of Albuquerque, as well as Grant & Ann Allen and Casey & Mary Skousen of Rio Rancho, NM. What a boost to our membership count! Thank you, Nate.
Robert A. Levin retired five years ago as a management consultant for nonprofit organizations,. After moving to Albuquerque, he has become a New Mexico history buff.
Anne Haines Yatskowitz, manager of ACCION New Mexico, enjoys the history associated with Route 66. She also enjoys working in a downtown office right on Central Avenue.

The restaurant, started in 1947 by his parents, serves up lively Mexican cuisine in a friendly atmosphere associated with Route 66 and the Club CafÈ. In fact, Joseph and Christina own the former Club CafÈ and the copyright to the "Fat Face" logo, but presently are uncertain when it will reopen as a restaurant because of the proximity to their successful venture.
Mike and Betty Callens, owners of Tee Pee Curios in Tucumcari, NM, have renewed. We thank these charter members.
Stop by their interesting place, just across from the Blue Swallow Motel. Marvel at the interesting displays of high quality Indian rugs and pottery.
We also welcome Don Larker of A-Town Merchants from Amarillo, TX, who helped sponsor last years "Run to the Heartland" event in Landergin, TX. Thanks also to John O'Neil, owner of Buffalo John's Outpost, "Where the Old West Lives Again!" in Moriarty for his business membership.

Nonprofit Development
by Rich Williams, Association Vice President

To better serve the members of the New Mexico Route 66 Association, an organizational committee was established at our July meeting in Grants to write and file Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws as a State of New Mexico nonprofit corporation. This is the first step in filing for federal nonprofit 501 (c) (3) status with the Internal Revenue Service.
Advantages of these designations
organizationally include a tax-free status for our programs and projects. Additionally, many grants and donations from philanthropic groups require nonprofit designation.
The committee includes: Sue Mann - President, Rich Williams - Vice President, Sherri Brueggemann - Secretary, Sue Simons, Susie McComb and David Bahm - members.
The Articles and Bylaws will be presented at our November meeting for a vote of approval by the membership.
