Santa Ana Pueblo

Approximately 19 miles North of Albuquerque lies the contemporary village El Ranchito, of these Keresan speaking people. The original village was located 9 miles Northwest of this modern area of commerce. The original North/South alignment of Route 66 passed through their lands.

El Ranchito features the Ta-Ma-Ya Cooperative, golf course, restaurant and casino. The Pueblos agricultural products have gained national and international recognition, specializing in organic blue corn products.

The native peoples know the old village as Tamaya. The Spanish, with the arrival of OÒate, renamed the village after St. Anne the mother of the Virgin Mary. During the Pueblo revolt of 1620 the people of Santa Ana retreated to the sierra Los Jemez along with members of Zia, Sandia and Puaray. In 1690 they returned to build the main village at its present site.
