New Mexico Tribal OrganizationsLaguna PuebloThese Keresan speaking people live just off I-40, about 43 miles West of Albuquerque. Nestled below scenic Mount Taylor, along what was once a natural dammed lake, settlements date back to the 1300's with the current location developed by the Spaniards in 1697. Laguna in Spanish means "lake." While the lake has transitioned to meadow land, you can still visit the pueblo's picturesque white adobe mission perched atop a hill and travel Route 66 through the Pueblo's meandering back roads through Cubero and Budville. There is excellent fishing at Paguate Reservoir. Permits are required and can be purchased by calling Laguna Natural Resources (505) 522-7512. Laguna maintains Casa Blanca Commercial Center along I-40, featuring a service station, rest area, pottery and other craft shops.
