Isleta Pueblo

Is located just off of I-25 about 13 miles South of Albuquerque on the Rio Grande. The Pueblo lies on the old North/South alignment of Route 66. It is one of the largest modern Pueblos covering more than 329 square miles of land including sections of the Manzano Mountains to the East to the Rio Puerco river on its Western boundary. Its current name is derived from its discovery by the Spanish in 1540. At that time the Tiwa people of this pueblo lived on an Island in the Rio Grande. Isleta means island in Spanish.

Isleta maintains a restaurant, camp grounds an RV park, picnic areas and year round fishing. It is well known for the 27 hole golf course (Isleta Eagle Golf Course) located along the scenic Rio Grande.
